لقي مؤثر السيارات الأمريكي جيمس وير، البالغ 27 عاماً، مصرعه في حادثة سير مروعة بمدينة إيرفين في ولاية كاليفورنيا، أسفرت أيضاً عن وفاة شخص آخر، بعدما تحطمت سيارة «ماكلارين» واشتعلت فيها النيران إثر اصطدامها بشجرة.
وقالت شرطة إيرفين إن عناصرها وفرق الإطفاء هرعت إلى موقع الحادثة بعد منتصف ليل الأحد 13 سبتمبر، عقب تلقي بلاغ عن سيارة مشتعلة عند تقاطع شارعي «كولفر درايف» و«ديرفيلد أفينيو». وبعد السيطرة على الحريق، عثرت فرق الطوارئ على جثتي شخصين داخل سيارة «ماكلارين» موديل 2019.
وحددت وسائل إعلام أمريكية هوية أحدهما بأنه جيمس وير، فيما لم تكشف السلطات حتى الآن هوية الشخص الآخر.
ووفق التحقيقات الأولية، كانت السيارة متوقفة عند إشارة مرور قبل أن تنطلق بسرعة كبيرة فور تحول الإشارة إلى اللون الأخضر. وبعد لحظات، فقد السائق السيطرة عليها، فاصطدمت بحافة الرصيف ثم بشجرة، ما أدى إلى تحطم السيارة واشتعالها.
وأثار نبأ وفاة وير حالة من الحزن بين محبي السيارات، خصوصاً في أوساط مجتمع South OC Cars & Coffee، الذي شارك في تأسيسه. ونعى التجمع وير، معرباً عن حزنه لرحيله، ومطالباً باحترام خصوصية عائلته خلال هذه الفترة.
وكان وير يدير التجمع الأسبوعي لعشاق السيارات في جنوب مقاطعة أورانج، بالتعاون مع والده وعدد من المتطوعين. ويجمع الحدث آلاف السيارات كل أسبوع، من بينها السيارات الخارقة والنادرة والكلاسيكية والمعدلة، ما جعله أحد أبرز التجمعات المتخصصة لعشاق السيارات في المنطقة.
American car influencer James Weir, 27, was killed in a horrific car accident in Irvine, California, which also resulted in the death of another person, after a McLaren crashed and caught fire upon hitting a tree.
The Irvine Police said their officers and fire crews rushed to the scene of the accident shortly after midnight on Sunday, September 13, after receiving a report of a burning car at the intersection of Culver Drive and Deerfield Avenue. After controlling the fire, emergency teams found the bodies of two individuals inside a 2019 McLaren.
American media identified one of them as James Weir, while authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the other person.
According to preliminary investigations, the car was stopped at a traffic light before it accelerated rapidly when the light turned green. Moments later, the driver lost control, crashing into the curb and then a tree, leading to the car’s destruction and ignition.
The news of Weir’s death has caused sadness among car enthusiasts, especially within the South OC Cars & Coffee community, which he helped establish. The gathering mourned Weir, expressing their sorrow over his passing and calling for respect for his family’s privacy during this time.
Weir managed the weekly car enthusiast gathering in South Orange County, in collaboration with his father and several volunteers. The event attracts thousands of cars each week, including supercars, rare, classic, and modified vehicles, making it one of the most prominent car enthusiast gatherings in the area.
