في خطوة تاريخية بعد أربعة عقود من قيادة رجالية متواصلة منذ تأسيسه عام 1987، عيّن مجلس إدارة معهد العالم العربي، صباح الثلاثاء 17 فبراير، الدبلوماسية المخضرمة آن-كلير لوجوندر رئيسةً للمعهد، خلفاً لـجاك لانغ الذي قدّم استقالته قبل عشرة أيام. وبذلك تسجل المؤسسة الثقافية الباريسية محطة مفصلية في مسارها المؤسسي.
مسار دبلوماسي من الإليزيه إلى نيويورك
لوجوندر (46 عاماً) عضو في الخلية الدبلوماسية بقصر الإليزيه منذ ديسمبر 2023، وتشغل منصب مستشارة الرئيس إيمانويل ماكرون لشؤون شمال إفريقيا والشرق الأوسط. وسبق أن تولّت منصب المتحدثة باسم وزارة الخارجية لأكثر من عامين، كما شغلت منصب القنصل العام لفرنسا في نيويورك بين 2016 و2020، وأدارت لفترة وجيزة السفارة الفرنسية في الكويت.
تنحدر من بريتاني، وتتقن العربية بعد دراستها في المعهد الوطني للغات والحضارات الشرقية (INALCO)، كما تحمل شهادات من معهد العلوم السياسية في باريس وجامعة السوربون في الآداب الحديثة، وخاضت تجربة إعلامية بتقديم نشرة أخبار في قناة فرنسية.
حضور في ملف الاعتراف بفلسطين
برز اسم لوجوندر في ملف اعتراف باريس بدولة فلسطين، إذ قادت اتصالات مكثفة مع عواصم عربية وغربية، من بينها لندن وأوتاوا وكانبيرا، وصولاً إلى إعلان القرار في سبتمبر 2025 على هامش اجتماعات الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة.
إجماع وترحيب ثقافي
مصادر مطلعة أكدت لـ«عكاظ» أن اختيار لوجوندر حظي بإجماع مجلس الإدارة، المؤلف من سبعة سفراء عرب وسبعة أعضاء تعيّنهم الخارجية الفرنسية.
الدبلوماسي الفرنسي دينيس بوشار علّق قائلاً: «كنت أخشى اختيار شخصية سياسية بعيدة عن الثقافة، لكن تعيين آن-كلير لوجوندر قرار صائب».
وبين رمزية الكسر التاريخي وخبرة الدبلوماسية العميقة، يدخل المعهد مرحلة جديدة تراهن على فهمٍ أدقّ لنبض العالم العربي وتحولاته.
In a historic step after four decades of continuous male leadership since its establishment in 1987, the Board of Directors of the Arab World Institute appointed veteran diplomat Anne-Claire Legendre as the institute’s president on the morning of Tuesday, February 17. She succeeds Jack Lang, who resigned ten days earlier. This marks a pivotal moment in the institutional journey of the Parisian cultural institution.
A Diplomatic Journey from the Élysée to New York
Legendre (46 years old) has been a member of the diplomatic cell at the Élysée Palace since December 2023, serving as President Emmanuel Macron’s advisor on North Africa and the Middle East. She previously held the position of spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for over two years, and served as the Consul General of France in New York from 2016 to 2020, as well as briefly managing the French embassy in Kuwait.
Hailing from Brittany, she is proficient in Arabic after studying at the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO), and holds degrees from the Institute of Political Studies in Paris and the Sorbonne in Modern Literature. She also has media experience, having presented news broadcasts on a French channel.
Involvement in the Recognition of Palestine
Legendre’s name emerged prominently in the file concerning Paris’s recognition of the State of Palestine, as she led intensive communications with Arab and Western capitals, including London, Ottawa, and Canberra, culminating in the announcement of the decision in September 2025 on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings.
Consensus and Cultural Welcome
Informed sources confirmed to “Okaz” that Legendre’s selection received unanimous support from the Board of Directors, composed of seven Arab ambassadors and seven members appointed by the French Foreign Ministry.
French diplomat Denis Puchard commented, saying: “I was afraid of choosing a political figure distant from culture, but appointing Anne-Claire Legendre is a wise decision.”
With the symbolism of this historic break and the deep experience of the diplomat, the institute enters a new phase that bets on a more accurate understanding of the pulse of the Arab world and its transformations.
